CRA Volunteer Income Tax Program
Ten ways to get free Help at tax time
Free offers from CRAs Certified NETFILE software providers

1. CRA Volunteer Income Tax Program

Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) lends you a helping hand if you are unable to complete your income tax and benefit return by yourself and are unable to pay for assistance.  Since 1971, the Canada Revenue Agency has worked with community volunteer organizations to help people complete their income tax and benefit returns through its Community Volunteer Income Tax (CVIT)  Program.

The CRA sponsored Community Volunteer Income Tax Program provides free help to complete income tax returns.  CRA offers training to volunteers who can help you complete your income tax and benefit return if your income is low and your tax situation is simple.  Volunteers do not complete income tax and benefit returns for deceased persons, bankrupt individuals, or individuals who have capital gains or losses, employment expenses, or business or rental income and expenses.

Click here if you need help locating a Volunteer Tax Preparation Clinic.  This service is offered between February and April of each year in various locations across Canada. You can also get  information from any community organization in your area that participates in this program like your Local Library, Church, YMCA or Community Centre.

CRA also offers some other resources to help you file your taxes.
